Why Casey Affleck Not Presenting at Oscars
Casey Affleck, best actor winner from last year's Oscars, will not present the best actress award, breaking ceremony tradition. Usually at the Academy Awards, the previous year winner of the opposite gender category will present the Best Actor/Actress award. Affleck withdrew from being a presenter in January, "reportedly to avoid becoming a distraction due to two sexual harassment lawsuits he previously settled with the producer and cinematographer of his 2010 film I’m Still Here," Variety reports.
The outlet added that he will be replaced with Jennifer Lawrence and Jodie Foster. E! reported during their broadcast it will actually be Jane Fonda and Lawrence. Lawrence and Fonda walked the red carpet earlier tonight. Foster did not.
E!'s announcement was a slightly awkward moment during their broadcast, as they went right back to Ryan Seacrest, who has made headlines for allegations of sexual harassment and abuse. Seacrest has denied any wrongdoing.
Variety reports that Fonda is presenting best actor with Helen Mirren. Time will tell who actually presents what as the ceremony continues.
