Who's open: Where to get your next ice cream cone this summer
A trip to the local ice cream shop is a good way to cool off this summer, and whether you prefer a cone, dish, shake or sundae, there are many seasonal ice cream stands across Somerset County ready to help beat the summer heat with a cool treat.

The Shake Shak is located at 327 Alwine Road, Boswell, near the intersection of routes 30 and 219 and next to BJ Maurer Ford. Open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. This is their 17th season in business; they offer Hershey's Premium hand-scooped ice cream, real soft serve ice cream, real fruit smoothies, coffee-flavored smoothies, Hawaiian style shaved ice and no sugar added flavors of ice cream. Krause's Soft Freeze, located at 8015 Somerset Pike, near the Jennerstown Speedway. 814-279-2718. Open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday (grill closes at 8 p.m. daily). Their menu features ice cream, sandwiches, wings, salads, hot dogs, fries, nachos and more. Call or visit their Facebook page for more information.
The Rambler, located at 1203 Jefferson Ave. in Windber, is open from 3-9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 1-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A drive-through line is also available. New for this year at The Rambler is that they are serving several food items: a King Soft Pretzel, all-beef hot dogs, nachos with cheese and a variety of chips, according to a post on its Facebook page. Credit cards will also be accepted for payment this year. The selection of flavors changes weekly, so be sure to check The Rambler's Facebook page regularly for updates.
The Pit Stop Kremery, 346 Main Street, Meyersdale, is open from 3-9 p.m. daily, seven days per week. Look for some new items this year on the menu, according to its Facebook page.
The Silver Bell, 1575 Tire Hill Road in Davidsville, is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Special flavors and other information is posted on its Facebook page.
