White woman turns herself in to police after harassing two black women in parking lot
A white woman caught on video harassing two black women turned herself in to police on Saturday, NBC News affiliate WCNC reports. The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department served Susan Jane Westwood with four criminal summonses and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for misusing 911.
Westwood’s employer, Charter Communications, confirmed to Yahoo Lifestyle on Oct. 29 that she was fired after she was identified as the woman in the video, which was taken on Oct. 19.
One of the women Westwood yelled at in the parking lot of a North Carolina apartment complex posted the video to Facebook, showing how Westwood treated her and her sister when she approached them that night. Leisa and Chele Garris said they were waiting for AAA assistance at their Camden Fairview apartment complex in Charlotte, N.C., when they found themselves the target of Westwood’s rants.
“I’m hot, I’m beautiful, I’m white,” Westwood says in the video. “This is Myers Park, South Park. What are you doing here?” She repeatedly asked the women if they lived in the apartment complex, as well as whether their “baby daddy” was with them.
One of the women claimed Westwood threatened to pull out a gun when they called 911, and a police incident report obtained by Yahoo Lifestyle shows that one of the women said Westwood physically assaulted her.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police previously told Yahoo Lifestyle that four criminal summonses for “simple assault” and “communicating threats” were issued for the suspect in the video. Because Westwood was gone by the time the police arrived, a warrant was issued for her arrest on Oct. 30, according to WCNC.
The 51-year-old, who turned herself in to the Sunset Beach Police Department and was transferred to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department, was released later the same day.
