Here’s Where You’ve Heard ‘The Legend of Korra’ Voice Actors Before
While not much could match Nickelodeon’s first Four Nation journey—the original Avatar: The Last Airbender, featuring the 3-book saga of Aang, Sokka, and Katara—the network’s follow-up series, The Legend of Korra, (from the same team of Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino), gave it a good shot. An older and more futuristic series, Korra follows the newest Avatar 70 years after the events of the Avatar: The Last Airbender—and with an animation style we wish the Avatar creators could just go back and use on Book 1. (We’d trade any remake for widescreen HD Avatar.)
Like its predecessor, Korra benefits from an enthusiastic group of voice talent (though, its title character has exchanged youthful zeal with adolescent angst). Actors such as Janet Varney, P.J. Byrne, and freaking J.K. Simmons (look for his voice acting talents elsewhere as... the Yellow M&M) help fire breathe life into the series.
Korra also features a few notable guests and throwbacks, including Dante Basco. Basco may be the voice actor for Uncle Iroh in the Korra series, but you probably remember him as Iroh's nephew Prince Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Another is Steve Blum, the voice actor for Amon. Blum has hundreds of voice acting credits. You might recognize him from Star Wars Rebels, Naruto: Shipp?den, Transformers Prime, Naruto, and Ben 10.
Here's where you've heard the principle cast of Korra before.
You've probably seen Varney in other television series. She appears in FX's You're the Worst, and superfans of Entourage might remember her as TV producer Amy Miller.
Byrne is someone you probably recognize more as a screen actor than a voice actor. Recent places you've seen him: The Wolf of Wall Street and as the principal on Big Little Lies.
For 90s kids, Faustino will probably look pretty sitcom familiar. He played Bud Bundy on Married... with Children for all 262 episodes. He also kinda looks like Mako. (It's the ears.)
Baker is probably best known as the voice of Klaus on American Dad! But for 12 years, he's also voiced Captain Rex on Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Simmons... you've seen everywhere (he won an Oscar for Whiplash, is absolutely iconic as J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man movies, and appeared in Palm Springs on Hulu earlier this summer). Other places you may have heard his voice work: Gravity Falls (Ford Pines), Zootopia (Mayor Lionheart), and as the yellow M&M in more than 20 years of commercials.
Gabriel has more Avatar connections than playing Asami. In the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender film (of which we shall not discuss), Gabriel plays Princess Yue. She was maybe the only spot-on casting decision of the entire production. (Just, maybe not the hair.)
If you recognized that voice in a sillier, more German form ... she's Frau Farbissina from Austin Powers! Send in the clones!
Shipka basically grew up on the set of Mad Men. She was 7 when she was cast as Sally Draper. More recently you may have seen her as Sabrina on Netflix's series.
Where have you heard Bennett before? (We'll give you a second.) He's Johnny Bravo!
Wells went pretty dark after voicing Meelo. We can't even find his photo.
