Where to bring the kids during winter recess
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Many schools in Western New York are on winter recess this week, and families might be looking for things to do. Below are some opportunities for families to get out and about in the 716.
Buffalo RiverWorks
Buffalo and Independent Health are teaming up for another year to offer a fun way for the community to stay active during winter recess.
Free ice and roller skating is being offered through Thursday, and free ice skating on Friday with discounts on skate rentals.
Guests can also climb the RiverWorks ropes course for $20. Reservations are required.
Independent Health Redshirts will be there from noon until 3 p.m. Wednesday with free giveaways and kid-friendly activities like scavenger hunts, coloring stations, character appearances free hot chocolate and more.

Buffalo waterfront
If you are looking to brace the cold winter temperatures, there will be free ice skating at the Ice at Canalside from 10 a.m. until noon every day until Feb. 21.

Buffalo Museum of Science
The Buffalo Museum of Science is holding a discovery camp in honor of National Engineers week, where through hands on STEM Explorations, children will be able to solve problems, complete challenges and show their creativity.
The museum will also be featuring a 30 minute Acrobatic Science show, throughout the week, at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets for the show are available at the admission’s desk.

Explore & More
Explore & More is also celebrating National Engineers Week. They have activities that help children learn more about the field and different types of engineering. They can build circuits, build and test bridges, learn more about basic force and more.

Buffalo Zoo
The Buffalo Zoo is having their Polar Bear Days, where visitors can come celebrate the animals and support polar bear conservation with discounted admission.
From Feb. 17-21 they will have $5 off admission, $1.50 hot chocolates, Buffalo Sabres ticket giveaways every day, activities, zookeeper talks and more.
