Westchester bakery closing after more than 70 years
Riviera Bakehouse, a staple in Ardsley for more than 70 years (and known to old-time customers as the Riviera), is closing at the end of January. Its smaller spot, at Tarrytown's Metro North station, will remain open with breakfast and lunch menu options, grab-and-go dinners, cupcakes, cookies and a full coffee bar.
There will no longer be custom cakes, a signature item the bakery was long known for. They will, however, after an initial adjustment period, offer custom cupcakes, custom decorated cookies, and 6-inch cakes.
The announcement was made on the bakery's social media and has quickly received a flood of comments. Many sentiments have proclaimed what a large part of people's lives the bake shop has been.

For owner Liv Hansen, who's owned the bakery since 2011 (she bought it from her mother Kaye Hansen and stepfather Peter Simon), there was no one particular reason for the closing. "It's a confluence of big and small factors," she said. "Let’s just say the last few years have been a doozy. So many changes and so many adaptations."
During the transition, the website will be updated with the Tarrytown menu. Also, customers will be able to order many menu items for pickup within 20 minutes.
Hanson wrote on social media how she'll forever be inspired by her mom, whose love of baking from scratch will live on in Tarrytown.
The bakery, which two German brothers opened in the 1950s, passed through many hands before Kaye Hansen bought it with her husband in 1994.
Liv Hansen opened the Tarrytown location in March 2020.
"Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your celebrations over the years!" wrote Liv Hansen. "We will miss the Riviera, but we hope to see you in Tarrytown soon!"
