Bored with board games? Plumb out of puzzles? With tons of indoor time on our hands, we have to get creative about keeping busy—and occupying our minds with something other than the news.
We’ve got just the thing: the wildly popular Instagram-famous card game called We’re Not Really Strangers. In the fine tradition of Cards Against Humanity—but PG rated—WNRS is a totally original, deceptively simple setup that yields complex, intriguing results. And it’s the perfect way to stir up interesting conversation while sheltering in place.
Comprised of questions and prompts, the game is like a cross between a sleepover and a session with a really cool therapist. It’s all about revealing thoughts you might otherwise keep hidden. And the ultimate goal? Connection.

WNRS comes in an elegant little red box, which deserves prime placement on your coffee table. The game is divided into three levels—Perceptions, Connection, and Reflection—with increasingly intense prompts. The prompts here tug at the heart, tap the subconscious and chip away at symbolic walls, to get at something meaningful. Example? “What have I tolerated from people in the past that I no longer have space for?” (OMG, how much time have you got?)

While it may not be at the top of your list to get even closer to the folks you’re sheltering-in-place with, WNRS adds a dimension to this difficult time that can be really nourishing. It helps you see those around you in a different light—and show another part of yourself (you know, not the part that’s saying, “Help me empty the dishwasher”—or nowadays, “Help me wash off these groceries.”
