Wellspring Project – a hands-on summer camp by the river
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — This is day one of the Wellspring Project – a four-day hands-on summer camp for sixth and seventh graders.
Lead Programmer Nicole Cook says what was once a dream from the Fruita Arts and Culture Board is now the Wellspring Project’s annual camp.
Alpine Bank, Xcel Energy, and Chevron among several others contribute to make this four-day class a possibility.
The summer camp does a combination of field trips and presenters coming in. They’re based out of the Fruita Community Center.
They also touch on ways to conserve water and care for wildlife and plant species throughout the grand valley.
The Wellspring Project works with nine different partners and organizations to give talks to the students, including Palisade Historical Society.
Clara, a student of the Wellsprings Project summer camp, tells Western Slope Now she’s most excited for the class finale- a short rafting trip down the river.
Applications are due each year in mid to late May.
