WB Games Is Going To Start Showing Off Suicide Squad Again

Rocksteady’s next game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, got a bit of an icy reception – to say the least – when its gameplay was first shown off earlier this year. The brutal backlash caused WB Games to delay the game by a pretty significant amount — 8 months, to be exact. Since then, we’ve seen absolutely nothing about the game, but it looks like WB Games is preparing to start showing it again.

The official Twitter account for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League revealed last night that Rocksteady and WB Games would be releasing a series of videos that it’s dubbing “Suicide Squad Insider.” As the name suggests, this new series will give a look at the game from an inside perspective, with Rocksteady staff talking through particular aspects of the game.

The first episode is set to be released on November 15, 2023, at 10am PT, and will focus on the story and gameplay of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. That… seems like a lot to throw into the first episode, and we’re wondering what could possibly be in subsequent episodes, but that’s for WB Games to figure out.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a live service multiplayer co-op game set in Rocksteady’s Arkham universe about five years after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight. It features four playable characters: Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark, with more characters said to be coming after launch.

The game was first announced in late-2020, and was said to be releasing sometime in 2022. It missed that release window, instead being pushed back to May 26, 2023. Then its gameplay was shown off in a 15-minute segment during a State of Play in February and everyone hated it. A couple months later, it was pushed back once more to February 2, 2024.

Fans were pretty upset with its somewhat generic-looking third-person shooter gameplay, and decried its live service elements like the always-online requirement in single-player and paid battle pass. That, somehow, did not act as a deterrent, as WB Games said recently it wants to focus more on live service games in the future, ideally turning all of its popular franchises into games that players can dump money into forever.

It’s unlikely the 8-month delay will result in any significant change to the game’s mechanics, monetization scheme, or live service elements, but who knows — maybe Rocksteady pulled out a miracle. Maybe don’t hold your breath, though.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you'd rather relive the glory days of the Arkham series instead, the Batman: Arkham Trilogy got a last-minute delay on Switch, but is still coming out sooner than Suicide Squad.
