Watch Dr. Pimple Popper Remove a Huge 'Potato Salad' Pilar Cyst
? In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper extracts a large pilar cyst.
? Pilar cysts are lumps of varying size that form on the scalp and are filled with fluid.
? Generally they're benign, and sometimes go away on their own without treatment.
Dr. Pimple Popper's videos are rarely a good idea to watch if you happen to be working up an appetite, or if you have a certain comfort food you don't want associated with a stomach-turning dermatological procedure.
Today's video is, well, no exception—especially if you're thinking about attending a barbeque today. In her latest Instagram post, Dr. Pimple Popper—aka, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—extracts a large pilar cyst from the top of a man's head, and in the process exposes a thick, potato-salad-like (her words, not mine) "filling." As Dr. Lee writes in the caption, "Summer is here! Time to make some potato salad and fire up the grill! This pilar cyst will get you started with some hard boiled egg."
Pilar cysts, for those of you who might be curious, are simply fluid-filled bumps that most frequently occur on the top of the scalp, according to MedicalNewsToday. As cysts go, they're extremely common, affecting as much as 10 percent of the population. While they may look alarming, it's important to note that they're usually harmless. Dermatologists sometimes recommend no treatment at all—given time, they'll drain and heal naturally. But if a cyst suddenly grows in size or poses a problem, they're easy enough for a dermatologist to treat, as Dr. Pimple Popper demonstrates in the clip above.
