Will Walmart Open Its Doors on Thanksgiving Day This Year?
Get all the details on the store's plans for Nov. 24.
In past years, Walmart stores have opened on Thanksgiving Day to give shoppers an early start on Black Friday. In 2020, however, the company made the decision to shut Walmart stores on Thanksgiving Day in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, last year, Walmart announced it would be keeping its doors shut again on the holiday. And this year, that tradition will continue, with the company deciding to keep Walmart closed on Thanksgiving.
"It's a thing of the past," Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner shared on the TODAY Show about previously being open. "We'll be closed again on Thanksgiving. Fortunately, all of our associates will be able to spend time with their loved ones this year."
“Closing our stores on Thanksgiving Day is one way we’re saying ‘thank you’ to our teams for their dedication and hard work this year," Dacona Smith, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Walmart U.S., said in last year's release. "We hope everyone will take the opportunity to be with their loved ones during what’s always a special time.”
