'The Voice' Fans Are Not Okay With Nick Jonas’s “Big Mistake” With Andrew Marshall
The Voice Twitter seemed to have a lot of opinions about Nick Jonas's decision following a recent battle between contestants Raine Stern and Andrew Marshall.
To advance to the knockout rounds, both Team Nick artists had to face off while singing Harry Styles's "Adore You" on Monday night's episode. After their duet concluded, coaches John Legend, Kelsea Ballerini (who is filling in for Kelly Clarkson temporarily), Blake Shelton and Nick all seemed to agree that Andrew's vocals were a bit more on point. But despite all of the praise for Andrew, Nick ended up surprising everyone with his selection.
"I would be lying if I said I didn't agree with the coaches. Andrew, you did nail this. There was a magic that came out in your performance today. But there was a similar magic in your blind audition," Nick said while addressing Raine. Moments later, he announced Raine, a three-chair turning contestant in the blind auditions, had won the battle.
"Raine is a phenomenal singer. This was not Raine's best performance, but I believe in her and I know that she can do better, and I had to go with her because I want to see that," Nick said while explaining his decision.
Some folks watching at home, however, weren't so sure about Nick's call. One fan called the move a "big mistake," while another seemed to insinuate that Nick was more worried about another coach stealing Raine than advancing Andrew. "@Nickjonas said Andrew won the battle, but still chose Raine because she has a better voice overall? Umm isn’t the winner of the Battle suppose to win the battle? #TheVoice has gotten too much about the coaches & not enough about the singers," they tweeted. Meanwhile, another fan declared, "Woooow how does andrew feel right now!!! They all said he was great and then didn’t win #thevoice."
Lucky for Andrew, Blake couldn't bear the thought of letting the talented artist go home. Using his one steal, Blake welcomed Andrew onto his team, which made Nick really happy. Was it a "big mistake" to let go of Andrew? We'll find out in the weeks to come, but Nick seems pretty confident in his choice at this stage of the competition.
