Vin Diesel Teases New ‘Riddick’ Sequel With a Shirtless Photo
Not content with having one hugely successful and long-running action movie franchise in the Fast & Furious series, Vin Diesel is keen to bring back one of his other famous characters: Riddick, the lethal antihero who he first portrayed in 2000's Pitch Black, a full year before the first Fast movie. He's already reprised that role in the 2004 sequel The Chronicles of Riddick and 2013 follow-up Riddick—and it's starting to look as if a fourth movie is finally on the horizon.
In a recent Instagram post, the actor and Men's Health cover star shared a brief, if vague, update on his ongoing attempts to get a new Riddick feature off the ground. "Incredible meeting today, thanks team you know who you are," he wrote. "Let's just say Furia maybe closer than you think."
The "Furia" mentioned in the caption is the home world of Riddick and his people, a civilization of spiritual warriors; think the Jedi in Star Wars, but gnarlier. Given the hugely ambitious world-building that went on in The Chronicles of Riddick, and the near-decade that has passed since the last movie, it's likely that Diesel has done a lot of thinking about the setting and plot for this next outing.
The Instagram post itself is a shirtless photo of Diesel in character as Riddick in the 2013 movie, just in case anyone needed a reminder of just how jacked he gets when playing this role. And if the movie goes ahead, we can expect the same of him again: shortly after posting this, Diesel shared a photo of himself working out with Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton, saying: "Faith and hard work pays off!"
