Victor Wembanyama Towers Over Tom Brady in Photo Ahead of Madison Square Garden Debut
At 6'4", Tom Brady probably doesn't encounter too many people taller than him, much less someone who makes him feel diminutive. But that's precisely what happened on Tuesday night when the seven-time Super Bowl champion had a meet and greet with San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama, ahead of the 19-year-old's Madison Square Garden debut against the New York Knicks on Wednesday.
And Wembanyama, who made history as the first French player to be the first overall draft pick earlier this year, doesn't have just a few inches on Brady, but an entire foot.
"Awesome to meet you [Wemby]," Brady captioned an Instagram post of himself standing next to the 19-year-old, who positively towers over him at 7'4" tall. "Incredible young man. Usually I’d make some joke here about how I think I could get 10 and 10 against you, but let’s be real ... you’d send my jumper into the club level."
Brady added a dig at his former teammate, New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman. "PS: [Julian Edelman] This is how you felt all those years???" he wrote, referring to Edelman's comparatively petite height of 5'10".
Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin also got some face-time with Wembanyama, who gifted him a signed jersey from his team in France, Metropolitans 92. "Future goat, goat, and munchkin," Rubin wrote on his own Instagram post, posing with the two athletes, to which Brady responded: "Fun night! Thanks for having us! You kept me up past my bedtime ... again."
Wembanyama is already believed to be one of the greatest NBA prospects of his generation, and was the most hyped first draft pick since LeBron James had the honor in 2003. In other words, he's well on his way to holding court with Brady, in more ways than one.
