‘This Is Us’ Has Already Filmed Scenes for Its Series Finale
This Is Us season 3 will premiere sometime this fall, and while there is no end in sight just yet for the beloved NBC drama, it turns out that the show has already filmed some of its eventual series finale.
“We’ve always had a plan,” This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman said at a panel on Tuesday, according to EW. “I don’t think this show will ever — despite any success it may or may not have — will ever overstay its welcome, and we have a story to tell. And we want to do this the right way. And so we have a plan … I’ve actually already shot pieces of the final scene in the series.”
As viewers know, the show doesn’t shy away from the emotional. After revealing early on in season 1 that lead character Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) was no longer alive in the show’s current timeline, it eventually showed his sad fate in season 2. We don’t know what Fogelman’s plan for the rest of the series is, but we’re betting it’ll make us cry.
Mandy Moore, who plays matriarch Rebecca Pearson, isn’t about to spoil it for us, but she likes that there’s a map for the story. “It gives me solace to at least know that Dan knows how the show is going to end,” she told ET. “He’s not flying by the seat of his pants, you know? Like, there is sort of a through line and a punctuation point and he knows how it all comes together.”
So far, This Is Us has hinted that season 3 will delve into Randall and Beth’s marriage, Toby’s depression, Rebecca and Miguel’s relationship, and how the “Big Three” Pearson kids cope with their father’s death in their senior year of high school.
