University of Texas Fills Football Stadium with Cutouts of Longhorns Superfan Matthew McConaughey

With stadium capacity restrictions in place amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, sports teams have been forced to find creative ways to keep their diehard fans in on the action.

For diehard University of Texas fan Matthew McConaughey, cheering on the Longhorns is a "non-negotiable," so the school came up with a unique way to get their "Minister of Culture" in the stands Saturday's football game against Texas Christian University.

In lieu of the real thing, life-size cutouts of the Oscar-winning UT alum filled a section of the stadium, featuring characters he's played in The Lincoln Lawyer, Dazed and Confused, The Wedding Planner, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and many more.

"MoC will for sure be in the house tomorrow," Texas Football revealed on Twitter Friday. The tweet (below) also included a video, narrated by the actor himself, of the McConaughey cutouts looking "alright, alright, alright" in their seats.

"Well, I don't have many affiliations," McConaughey says in the video. "I've got God, I've got my family, I got America, and I got Texas. This is one of those things that's nonnegotiable for me wherever I go."

And that's not an exaggeration. The 50-year-old Uvalde native has been a fixture at UT sporting events for decades. Some might even consider him the school's unofficial mascot. (No offense, Bevo!)

Unfortunately, McConaughey's presence wasn't enough to ensure a victory for the Longhorns. The team lost 33-31 to the Horned Frogs.
