Uniqlo Launched the Perfect French Capsule with Ines de la Fressange
Yes, it is well-established that nearly everyone would dress like the French if they could, but mastering the look requires skill and, well, je ne sais quoi. Parisian Ines de la Fressange, who began her career as a model (she earned the nickname "the talking mannequin" because she was so vocal about her opinions on fashion) is the ultimate example of fantastic French style. She was a muse to Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, had her own Parisian brand in the 8th arrondissement, and even became the face of France, as her likeness was used to make the bust of Marianne. De la Fressange has also literally written the book on how to dress like a French woman, called Parisian Chic. Her new collaboration with Uniqlo distills all of her style know-how into one perfectly curated fall collection—and is the closest one can get to having the French fashion icon as a personal stylist.
Ranging from the essentials, like perfectly cut wool trousers and a rich velvet jacket, to accents like a jaunty cap and the perfect red sweater, the Uniqlo capsule has literally everything one might need to create a quintessentially French closet for cooler weather. “I wanted to celebrate the symbols of female freedom from the 1970’s. Back in the seventies, many women were determined to emancipate themselves from traditions," says de la Fressange. "I was particularly inspired by women like Jane Birkin, Fran?oise Hardy, and Fran?oise Dorléac. That spirit comes across in the key items, including twist pleated skirts, silk blouses, and classic tweed jackets.” The best part? The entire collection is under $150 and most pieces are under $50, which means there is no excuse not to stock up before it sells out. Here are the 15 pieces we'll be putting into our shopping carts today.
