Here are my unfiltered thoughts on the MAC x Teyana Taylor collection

I’ve been a Teyana Taylor fan since I first watched her episode on “My Sweet 16” on MTV. The Harlemite was stylistically tomboyish, her baggy jeans and snapback hats somehow paired so swaggy with her larger-than-life coils and no-nonsense attitude. I definitely thought Teyana was the coolest person ever.
Well, some things have changed since then. She’s married to Iman Shumpert, has a daughter (and has confirmed her second pregnancy), has been in countless movies from “Stomp the Yard: Homecoming” to this year’s “Coming 2 America,” and she’s most recently collaborated on a beauty collection with MAC Cosmetics.
I personally get excited about beauty collaborations when there are Black and brown individuals involved. Not because I’m biased, but because I have a bit more faith that I’ll be able to find at least one product that works for me and my skin tone. This collaboration is bright, bold, electric and everything else you can use to describe Teyana’s dynamite personality.
Check out the collection below as well as my initial thoughts.
Shop: Teyana Taylor Lip Pencil, $19

The lip pencils in the collection come in four universal MAC shades (Chestnut, Hodgepodge, Cyber World and Nightmoth) remixed in neon packaging symbolic of the ’90s. Not much to say here -- I’ve loved MAC’s lipliners for years and always reach for them, whether I’m doing a glossy lip or a stunning red. The new packaging was a cute touch!
Shop: Teyana Taylor Mineralize Skin Finish, $37

Now before we jump into the price tag, I have to mention that this mineralize skin finish is hands-down my favorite thing in this collection. It’s a rich gold-bronze powder, which makes it almost universally flattering on all skin tones. As someone who can’t have enough gold in her life, I loved that the powder wasn’t overbearing on my skin but showed up with only a few swipes. I know the price can feel a little daunting, but a little goes a long way.
Shop: Teyana Taylor Lipglass, $19
Credit: MAC
If you love a nice glossy lip without the sticky feel, these lip glasses are going to stick out to you. Even though I tend to go for clear gloss whenever I’m going for that vibe, I can appreciate a nice tinted lipgloss every now and again. My favorite was “But Ain’t Got No Manners,” a sheer nude with bronze and gold pearl pigments.
Shop: Teyana Taylor Lipsticks, $20

Alright, when y’all think MAC, y’all think lipsticks, right? Well, let’s get into it. The collection has four lip shades, from a bright candy apple red to a ’90s purple with blue and purple pearl pigment. The lipsticks are all nourishing, and I was really happy to see Teyana give us both nudes and color. My two favorites in the collection were “A Rose in Harlem,” a bright candy apple red, and “I Got A Man,” a dark cocoa brownie nude.
Let me just say that this collection is extremely versatile and can work on multiple shade tones, which is essentially what we always want, right?
Overall, this collection is bomb and I love that anyone can find something in this collection that works for them. The star player, in my opinion, is that mineralize skin finish, but each product has its own unique spin on the classic products.
The packaging alone does it for me, but the products themselves are worth every single cent.
Anywho, if you’re interested in shopping the entire collection, you can check it out on MAC’s website right now. Run, don’t walk.
