Under Armour Drops Sneaker NFT in Honor of Steph Curry's NBA 3-Point Record
To celebrate Stephen Curry breaking the all-time three-point NBA record, Under Armour will be releasing the world’s first cross-platform metaverse sneaker with true in-game functionality.
The Golden State Warriors Point Guard last week surpassed the all-time three-point NBA record by sinking his 2,974th career shot.
In honor of the historic achievement, Under Armour will be releasing 2,974 NFTs titled "Genesis Curry Flow" collection that are digital replicas of the game-day shoe Curry was wearing when he broke the record – the Curry Flow. Each shoe NFT can be worn across three gaming metaverses -- Gala Games, Decentraland, and the Sandbox.
The sneakers are priced at $333 USD each, another nod to his accomplishment, with all of the Under Armour proceeds going to charities helping to increase youth access to sport. In addition, Curry Brand is building three new courts in Oakland, Charlotte, and New York City.
The drop was brought to life by creative agency Berlin Cameron, NFT production company NewKino and NFT marketplace Luna.
“With the stature of Stephen’s achievement, we wanted to do something that truly ‘changed the metaverse game for good,’ and so the notion of the first sneaker that can travel across the platform and have genuine functionality and performance was born," said Berlin Cameron founder Ewen Cameron.
Curry recently dropped a surprise NFT comprised of 2,974 pieces showcasing a specific three-pointer and the corresponding moment in time.
