Tyler Perry Reflects on His Struggles With Mental Health Following the Death of tWitch
The actor is opening up about a painful time in his life in hopes that he can help those also struggling.
Tyler Perry is opening up about his struggles with mental health amid the sudden death of Stephen 'tWitch' Boss on Dec. 14, 2022.
The DJ and dancer–who made his mark on The Ellen Degeneres Show–was found dead in a Los Angeles hotel. He died by suicide, per Deadline.
His death sparked the conversation surrounding mental health and suicide, and now Perry is speaking out on his own struggles. The actor took to his Instagram to share a video captioned, "Life..." where he reflected on his mental health after hearing about tWitch.
"I've only met him a couple of times," Perry said of the professional dancer. "He was always full of life; he seemed like such a light."
"With that said, I just want to take you back to a time in my life when I tried to commit suicide a couple of times because it was so dark, I didn't think it would get any better. I had endured so much pain, so much abuse, sexual abuse; it was all so hard to just move through that I thought the only way to make this better was to end my life."
He continued: "Had any of those attempts happened, I would've missed the best part of my life."

Perry urged anyone struggling to talk to someone they trust or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
"I know it may seem like there's no hope, but please reach out to someone ... call, ask for help if you are dealing with anything that is emotionally taking you to a place where you think you want to end your life," he said.
Although Perry revealed some dark news about his own struggles with mental health, he did note that he is currently the "happiest" he's ever been.
