Two Stuntmen Brothers Fought Each Other in Endgame's Pivotal 'Cap vs. Cap' Scene
Avengers: Endgame delivered on the fan service front, not least in the incredible Cap vs Cap fight during the time travel heist.
Talking to Digital Spy for the release of Netflix movie Extraction, Endgame's stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave revealed a touching hidden detail about when Captain America (Chris Evans) fought his past self.
Hargrave started working with Marvel movies on The Avengers when he was the stunt double for Cap, but on Endgame, it was his younger brother Daniel Hargrave who was the Cap double.
But the fight gave Sam Hargrave a chance to pull on the suit one last time and moments in the fight are him and his brother fighting each other as Cap in the biggest movie of all time.
"That's why I got back in the suit, so that I could say that. Marvel's great at this, but there's a lot of digital face replacement and there's a lot of epic moments where that is the brothers Hargrave duking it out on screen in Avengers: Endgame," he explained.
"And that's the reason I did it, because that stuff lives forever. You get to tell your kids, your grandkids, that that was me and my brother doubling and fighting in that movie."
Sam Hargrave directed the entire sequence and he called it "one of the high points" of working on Endgame, which will shortly mark the one-year anniversary of its release.
"I am extremely proud of every aspect of that film. When I watched it… it's funny. I worked on the entire thing, basically, and I was still surprised," he reflected.
"I was laughing out loud. I think that’s a testament to how great of a movie the Russos crafted, and all the cast and crew who were a part of that."
Extraction marks Sam Hargrave's directorial debut and he also spoke to Digital Spy about the key lesson he learnt from working on Marvel movies, as well as what made Chris Hemsworth "perfect" for the lead role.
