Twitter does not like seeing Ryan Seacrest on the Oscars red carpet
Ryan Seacrest was trending on Twitter Sunday night — and not in a good way.
Because even though Seacrest’s former stylist came forward accusing him of sexual assault less than a week ago, E! decided to move forward with him as the host of its red carpet Oscars coverage on Hollywood’s biggest night.
Although there’s no denying Seacrest is the man for the job in interviewing celebrities, viewers are not sure if keeping him on the task was worth the possible insult and injury. Some are pointing out that although he’s innocent until proven guilty, it still may not the smartest move to keep him on the carpet.
“They should have fired [Ryan Seacrest] because he’s a talentless hack” #Oscar2018

Innocent until proven guilty but E! having Ryan Seacrest on the Red Carpet when tonight's Red Carpet theme is #MeToo and #TimesUp WTF!!!
— scott timmins (@Drumpfstinydick) March 4, 2018
Ryan Seacrest should stay out of the spotlight, until the allegations are further investigatated. #MeToo #RyanGoHome

“It’s very conflicting to give an opinion on the Ryan Seacrest issue. It’s a slippery slope. While we want to protect people who share their story, we still stand on innocent until proven guilty. I’ve personally flipped flopped on this,” one woman tweeted. Another wrote, “fyi it’s actually fucking insulting that Ryan Seacrest is doing the interviews on the red carpet, given the allegations against him, and Giuliana Rancic and her gorgeous, glorious self is being underutilized at a second location.”
The problem is, while ABC is doing its own preshow and Michael Strahan is killing it, E! is traditionally the go-to network for red carpet moments. And Twitter is torn; many are protesting Seacrest by watching another channel, whereas many others don’t trust any other channels for red carpets.
I've never voluntarily watched Ryan Seacrest on these red carpets, but it's really, really, making me miss Joan Rivers. #Oscars #Oscars90 #RyanSeacrest

Yay! I don’t want to watch Ryan Seacrest. https://t.co/T2CeHMndqq

Is there any other channel doing the Red Carpet coverage? I’d rather go to the dentist and get a tooth pulled than watch Ryan Seacrest and Juliana Rancich….#OscarSunday #Oscar2018

Not wanting to watch Ryan Seacrest but knowing that the ABC red carpet show is just plain awful is ruining my Oscar night.
— Cole K (@hot_n_coleD) March 4, 2018
Others are calling out E! entirely — not only for disregarding the accusations, but also for not making better use of Giuliana Rancic, who is not even live on the red carpet, but is watching it from the nearby Roosevelt Hotel.
You could replace him with any nominee’s mom and instantly improve that dumb show
— Drew Magary (@drewmagary) March 4, 2018
imagine going out of your way to protect Ryan Seacrest lmao literally the world’s most replaceable man
— Brandy Jensen (@BrandyLJensen) March 4, 2018
No one's wearing black. No one's wearing #TimesUp pins. Ryan Seacrest is asking questions on the red carpet as if he hasn't been accused of sexual harassment & assault. Business as usual. Where'd our momentum go? #MeToo #Oscars90 #Oscars

Ryan Seacrest should’ve had the night off. https://t.co/eb3fPzwpht
— Jamil Smith (@JamilSmith) March 4, 2018
Ryan Seacrest should have stayed home. #GoHomeRyan #MeToo
— Virginia Martinez (@JennyDawny) March 4, 2018
With all the controversy surrounding Ryan Seacrest right now why wouldn’t they put Giuliana on the #ERedCarpet? It seems like Ryan isn’t getting the young star interviews. Maybe it’s early I don’t know. #oscars

I’m reserving judgement on the Ryan Seacrest thing for now, in terms of true/false, but how E! has handled this red carpet in response is horrible. They have him at top billing, and only one doing interviews. Giuliana Rancic got stuck back at some pool not even on red carpet.
— Herculinds Herculinds Herculinds (@Herculinds) March 4, 2018
Soooo @GiulianaRancic is not allowed to interview ANYONE so E can shove Ryan Seacrest down everyone’s throat?? Why is anyone talking to him or E??Tone deaf #Oscars

E! is apparently airing with a 30-second delay. Twitter users are talking about how this could be to avoid airing any awkward Ryan run-ins, especially after the Catt Sadler comments that aired on E! at the Golden Globes.
E plans to have a 30-second broadcast delay in case anyone goes off on Ryan Seacrest. To me that seams to go against the message of #timesup. Why not just take him off the carpet? https://t.co/EPtR5uY9IH

Some are commenting on how we might not see many women if we watch E!
Kinda surprised Ryan Seacrest is doing the Red Carpet thing tonight. Wonder if anyone will bypass talking to him. #Oscars2018
— Stephanie (@ssbpiphany) March 4, 2018
Wow. Pretty obvious that women are avoiding Ryan Seacrest on the Oscars Red Carpet. I think I've only seen him interview 3 or 4 women all night long.
— Lisa B. (@politeracy) March 4, 2018
So E news not only pays their male reporters more than their female reporters butttt they also support Ryan Seacrest AND let him host the Oscars red carpet? I hope every celeb passes him & doesn’t do any interviews w/ their network or if they do, I hope they shade tf out of them
— Gabby (@_QueenGxL) March 4, 2018
Others are shaming those who have talked to him already, including Allison Janney, Tiffany Haddish, and Mary J. Blige.
I’m judging everyone talking to Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. #Oscars #TimesUp pic.twitter.com/m1y8xxR2h9

WOW lost so much respect for u @maryjblige kissing Ryan Seacrest ABUSIVE ass…oh n now look at PATHETIC @common kissing his ass too…#Oscars

A lot of people are trying to make light of the very awkward setup on the red carpet: So many celebrities have spoken out in support of the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements, yet, here’s Seacrest.
We literally just had a moment on #ERedCarpet:
They cut to a Rancic segment talking about #MeToo / #TimesUp and it ended…with Rancic throwing to Ryan Seacrest.
Friends, you couldn't make it up… https://t.co/JAlGpRtvzF— Kevin D. Grüssing #IWillVote (@KevDGrussing) March 4, 2018
Christopher Plummer: hey there
Ryan Seacrest: hey..
Plummer: they told me i’m here to replace you so…#Oscars pic.twitter.com/JYRlrg3lhF— Raul Muci?o (@raoulmc) March 4, 2018
has anyone gone straight "talk to the hand" to Ryan Seacrest yet? #Oscars2018 #TimesUp oscars

Everyone is talking to Ryan Seacrest, Harry Styles isn't here, and the Oscars are officially garbage before they've even begun. pic.twitter.com/V4B5hsGIby

Watching the awkwardness of Ryan Seacrest getting the cold shoulder on the Red carpet is all kinds of awesome
