'Twilight's Taylor Lautner Responds to Claims He 'Did Not Age Well'
Taylor Lautner is putting his mental health above people's opinions.
The actor took to Instagram to respond to criticism about his appearance in the comments of previous posts, sharing a video speaking to his followers directly.
Lautner started off by explaining what happened and how it affected him, saying, "I just got back from a run, I was feeling really good about myself, trying to stay healthy both physically and mentally and I felt compelled to share something with you."
He said that he went to Instagram to post something, before reading comments on an older post: "I was going through the comments and it brought up old feelings and memories on why I don’t look through comments.”

Lautner showed some of the comments in question, with many saying things about him "not aging well" and noting that he “looks so old."
Obviously, that sort of criticism from strangers online is bound to affect someone.
The 31-year-old said, "If this was 10 years ago, five years ago, maybe even two, three years ago, that really would have gotten under my skin and it would have caused me to want to just go in a hole and not go outside."
But now, Lautner feels differently, explaining his state of mind to his followers, saying, "You find value where you put it. And if you put your value in what other people think of you, that's how you're going to feel. But if you put your value in you knowing who you are, what's important to you, what you love, that kind of stuff won't get to you."
Thankfully, Lautner is "in a different place now," noting that comments like that don't “make me question who I am.”
Lautner ended the video by reiterating his message of being kind: "My biggest point is just think about and remember where you put your value in life, and also just be nice. It's not that difficult. Let's be nice to each other. Let's spread love and positivity. It's that simple."
He captioned the post, "Spread love. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth."
Fans of the star were very supportive of Lautner's message, praising him for being so honest and open.
Clayton Echard, the star of The Bachelor season 26, commented, "Love that you shared this. It takes a ton of vulnerability, courage and strength to do so. People need to realize the weight of their words and it doesn’t help that there’s often no accountability when it comes to social media."
Bachelor Nation star Kaitlyn Bristowe, who is known for being honest with her followers and fans, also wrote, "Holy shoot. Thank you for sharing this. I sometimes need to practice what I preach and this was really powerful for me. Thank you."
The video even led some of the people whose comments he referenced to personally apologize to the actor for how their words hurt him.
Lautner's wife, Tay Lautner, commented, "God I love you," while also highlighting one phrase Lautner said in the video, “It doesn’t make me question who I am."
Hopefully, some people will take Lautner's advice and seriously consider the words they share on social media.
