Turns Out People Have Been Putting Peanuts In Their Coke For Awhile Now

From Delish

Here at Delish, we strive to keep y'all abreast of the latest food trends. So when we saw our fellow Hearst friends over at Esquire.com (hey, guys!) writing about peanuts in Coke (and describing it as "one of [the South's] lesser-known slam dunks"), we lost it a little bit. And bought peanuts and Coke immediately.

This led to me, at 10:20 a.m., announcing to the office I had a surprise for everyone to taste. After dividing up 20-ounce bottle of Coke into five cups over a buttload of lightly salted peanuts, I insisted five different people (one from Florida, another from Ohio, the rest from miscellaneous areas in the Northeast) try the concoction and got ... mixed responses.

All five noted a hit of peanut smell to the face when they started sipping. Another expressed confusion at what to do with the actual peanuts ("do you ... eat them?"). Three of them identified what it was they were eating/drinking immediately. The other two appreciated the saltiness vs. sweetness element of it all, but mentioned in no uncertain terms that a little past 10 a.m. was not the time to be drinking such a thing.

Southerners on staff scoffed at our marveling at this "new trend." They encouraged us to let the peanuts marinate in the coke for a bit, to let it all come together as it was meant to.

Stay tuned, I guess? Until then, I'll be ... not drinking the soggy, carbonated salty mixture on my desk.
