I Tried the Most Underrated, Unsexy Shoe Hack—and I’m Never Going Back

My aches and pains are gone.
I think that many people have just come to accept things. We accept that, no matter how hard we try, we’ll never make it to the train on time (New Yorkers, you know what I mean). We accept that we’ll just end up spending hundreds of dollars on a good dinner (though we don’t have to!), and we accept that sometimes we have to sacrifice comfort for style, especially when it comes to our footwear.
Well, dear readers, this isn’t the case. Ever since I discovered the solution to making my most stylish shoes feel like orthotics without looking like them, I've been a changed woman. Just ask my sister: When I initially tested it, I texted her saying, “I have something that’s going to change your life.” This “something” is Fulton’s latest (and perhaps greatest) launch of the year: the Universal Insoles that are going to change the way you wear 99 percent of your shoes.
Fulton the Universal Insole
Let’s rewind, though. I’m no stranger to Fulton’s insoles. I’ve worn its OG classic style for years, though that insole works best for sneakers and more of the like. Don’t get me wrong: I swear by this option, but I was also in dire need of a universal style I could slip into my too-hard loafers or boots. And as luck would have it, Fulton has officially delivered exactly that with its Universal Insole that’s going to level-up the comfort of virtually all of your shoes.
Like its other offerings, the podiatrist-approved insole is made from shock-absorbing cork that lessens the impact of each step, in turn, saving your joints from the aches and pains we so often deal with at the end of a long, walking-heavy day. There’s also a cushioning foam that offers padding where you need it, as well as a cactus leather design that’s comfy and smooth on bare feet. It works for all arch types, from flat feet like my husband’s to high arches, and you don’t need to cut it into the correct length; simply buy your normal shoe size.
How does it differ from Fulton’s other options? It’s a half-insole, which means it’s suitable for shoe styles that others won’t necessarily work with. Think: loafers, boots, and flats—i.e. footwear that often needs the most help to elevate the comfort. This is because the insole has a low-profile design, which means it’ll fit into shoes that don’t initially come with removable insoles. Word of advice: You’ll have to wear them for a bit to ensure the insole molds to your unique foot shape, but after this, you’ll feel like you’re walking on cloud nine.
Ever since I put them into my flats and loafers, I’ve been walking around with zero foot, knee, or back pain. I’m not old, but such aches and pains aren’t exclusive to age; much of the pains we feel are due to improper footwear support—I only wish I’d known this earlier. So, shop more of my favorite cushy insoles from Fulton below, and get ready to walk the walk (comfortably!)
