Tory Burch Makes Surprisingly Affordable and Underrated Workout Clothing
The sports I’ve been dreaming of lately are ones I’ve never played. Tennis and golf, specifically. I’ve played soccer my whole life and it’s the only sport that I feel passionately enough about to cry over (don’t talk to me when the World Cup rolls around, I’m sensitive). But aside from the knee-high socks, my uniform never thrilled me. White pleated tennis skirts and plaid golf pants, though, definitely intrigued me.
Daydreaming about playing tennis and golf has little to do with the actual sports themselves and more with the fact that anything involving green grass and crowds of people feels like something worth fantasising about. Especially if it also means getting dressed in something other than sweats. Obviously, as a style writer who covers shopping, I’ve taken my vision a bit further by filling my online shopping cart with Tory Sport, Tory Burch’s activewear line that secretly makes the most underrated workout clothing in the activewear game.
Naturally, Tory Sport is preppy. The sneakers have ruffles. The leggings are patterned with flowers. And there are enough polo dresses and chevron sweaters to fill up a stadium during Wimbledon. Surprisingly, for designer activewear, most pieces are under $200 with a vast majority under $100. Celebrities like Jessica Alba and Reese Witherspoon are fans. And it only feels right that Tory Sport’s cute workout clothing would engulf Bachelor nation, with many ex-contestants wearing the brand’s best-selling tie-dye sets in their IG lives.
I imagine we all have a newfound appreciation for cute workout clothing these days but Tory Sport feels special. Unlike my other favorite activewear brand, FP Movement, which is no doubt defined by it’s bohemian spirit, Tory Sport is entrenched in elegance and old-school americana. When I wear it I feel like I could maybe join Anna Wintour for a tennis match at her home in the Hamptons and then sit down for tea.
Right now, that feels like the kind of clothing I’d want to lounge in at home. It doesn’t make me feel lazy as hell like my tie-dye sweatsuit does or nostalgic for nature like my Free People bike shorts do. It makes me feel dressed up. And even if I doubt I’ll be picking up tennis or golf while this is over, I’m strongly advocating for tennis skirts and gold pants when we can go outside. Because I’m sure we’ll still need an escape then too.
