The music industry is reeling after the death of Toby Keith on Feb. 5, 2024, at the age of 62, following a difficult battle with stomach cancer.
Keith's family shared the news on his website, writing that he passed "surrounded by his family," before noting, "He fought his fight with grace and courage." The statement ended with a request for privacy for the family.
Now, musicians and other celebrities are paying tribute to the late "Beer For My Horses" singer and honoring his legacy after his death.
John Rich, of the musical duo Big & Rich, shared on X, "Waking up to the terrible news that our friend, and legend @tobykeith has passed away from cancer. He was a true Patriot, a first class singer/songwriter, and a bigger than life kind of guy. He will be greatly missed."
"Saddle up the horses, Jesus, ‘cause a true blue COWBOY just made his ride up to heaven!!!" wrote Carrie Underwood in reaction to the sad news, sharing a photo of the two together from a few years ago. "Introduce him to all the Okies and sign that boy up for the choir! We’re gonna miss you, Toby, but my heart has no doubt that you are standing in the presence of our King right now!!! See you again someday, friend."
"So sad to hear about Toby Keith dying. wow. He was just with us in studio and seemed super positive," wrote radio personality Bobby Bones, adding, "Ive had the honor of opening for him on his tour. playing with him at festivals. and having him, in studio many times. Gathering notes and thoughts to talk about it coming up this morning."
"Something in the Orange" singer Zach Bryan responded, "too many rides in my old man’s car listening to Toby Keith. really hard thing to hear. rest in peace friend we love you."
Many celebrities shared words of support for Keith on the announcement of his passing on Instagram, including actress Kristin Chenoweth, who said, "I loved him as a musician. A great Oklahoman. A great American. What a loss!"

Fellow country superstar Jason Aldean commented on Keith's death after learning the news, writing, "Just waking up to the news of Toby Keith’s passing. Today is a sad day for Country music and its fans. Toby was a huge presence in our business and someone we all looked up to and respected. You and your music will be forever remembered big man."

Today show host Hoda Kotb also wrote: "So sad to hear about @tobykeith passing…. Playing his music this morning…and remembering RIP".
Country music group Old Dominion also paid tribute to Keith on Instagram, writing of the star, "Toby Keith was a true trail blazer. Authentic and heartfelt but always with a wink ‘til the end. He was larger than life in so many ways and his music will live on forever! Raising our red solos tonight—you will be missed by so many. Peace."
"Damn, RIP Toby. Can’t believe it," said Luke Combs upon hearing the news, while Cole Swindell shared his thoughts, saying, "RIP Toby Keith- Tell folks you love them while you can. Life is short..the older I get, the more I realize how true it is. ??."
Keith was a well-known singer-songwriter who made his name in the country music world with hits like, "Should've Been A Cowboy," "Red Solo Cup," "As Good As I Once Was," and many more.
