Tips for maintaining sobriety this summer
CHILLICOTHE — If you or someone you know is an alcoholic summer can be a hard time to maintain, or even start, the path of sobriety. With cookouts, pool parties, and other summer events there seem to be plenty of opportunities to socially drink.
To help those wanting to stay sober this summer a member from a local Alcoholics Anonymous group shared some tips and tricks he has learned over the years.
Take it one day at a time.
By focusing on staying sober each day as they come you are less likely to get overwhelmed with how you will manage.
Be willing to change parts of your life.
Know that you can't change other people's actions but you can change yours.
Make sure you are going to events for the right reasons, not just to drink.
Find your higher power.
Finding something bigger than yourself is a big part of AA. This higher power can be almost anything and does not have to be religious.
Reach out for help if needed.
