Time to ~Solve the Mystery~ of ‘The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window’ Season 2
I think we can all agree that February is an incredibly bleak month and, some might say, a true hellscape. But! Per usual, Netflix came through and dropped another addictive show: *takes deep breath* The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window.
This limited series didn’t get that much press before showing up on everyone’s home page, but after just one weekend, it skyrocketed into Netflix’s Top 10 list. And while the central mystery of the show (aka who is the killer?) was resolved by the end, there’s definitely more story to tell. Especially since the whole thing ended with a brand-new mystery, ahem: Anna finds herself on a solo plane trip and passes out after drinking a ton of mini vodkas (she’s moved on from wine, okay?). She wakes up and heads to the bathroom, only to find the dead body of her glamorous seatmate—iconically played by Glenn Close. Except when Anna tells the flight attendant and he opens the door, the body is nowhere to be found. And thus, a new murder is ready to be solved!
So…is The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window getting another season (which I think we can all agree should be titled The Woman in the Seat Across the Armrest From the Woman on the Plane)? Here’s what we know.
The Show Is Technically a Miniseries
And miniseries tend to be one and done. Just based on that alone, it seems possible that a sequel won’t be a thing. However, given the show’s popularity, it’s unlikely that Netflix would just move on without begging everyone to come back for another round of murder mystery tropes.
Kristen Bell Hinted That Season 2 Is Happening
When asked in an interview with PopSugar what she thinks happens after the big cliff-hanger with Glenn, Kristen implied that season 2 is in the works. Sorta.
“I need to call the writers before I answer that. I have no idea,” she said, adding that she hopes Anna will solve the finale’s mystery “within the first five minutes of episode 1, and then we just go into another mystery, like murders follow my character around.”
She also told Screen Rant it’s possible that in a second season, “we all come back but we’re different characters.”
The Ending Was Made With Season 2 in Mind
Showrunner Hugh Davidson was actually asked about the cliff-hanger ending, and turns out it was a direct reference to psychological thrillers ending with an excerpt from the author’s forthcoming book.
“We thought that’s such a funny thing that goes on in books but it doesn’t go on really in shows,” Hugh told Entertainment Weekly. “So we always knew with the last episode, after we fulfill the obligations of who the killer is and all that stuff, we thought we wanted to do something like that. And it was a comment on those, but because of that, we did actually have to figure out enough about that to figure out what it could be. So Rachel, Larry, and I spent a good two or three days figuring out what could potentially be season 2, but we did it sort of as a joke and just to make sure we knew what the hell was going on, but we’ll see.”
When asked if this meant a second season could happen, he added, “It could. We’ll see if people like this first one.” Meanwhile, cocreator Larry Dorf told TV Line, “We did spend time crafting what happened when that plane lands. So pages exist.”
Hear that? Pages! Exist! But naturally, we’ll be updating this article if Netflix makes said pages official.
