TikToker Who Lived in Nearly Every Major U.S. City in His 20s Names the Three Worst
With the cost of living outpacing salaries in many major metropolitan areas in the United States, it's hardly a secret that many young people are struggling. But one TikToker who lived in most of them before he turned 30 has put out a PSA on which he thinks should be avoided.
As someone who’s lived in almost every major US city in my 20s, here are the three worst cities to live in in the US in your 20s," explained Taylor Offer, CEO of the clothing brand Feat, in a TikTok video recorded back in August that's recently gained attention.
In third place, Offer named Miami, which interestingly enough, is apparently the most popular travel destination in the U.S. according to TikTok. But the thrilling nightlife and scenic coastal location are apparently as much a boon as a draw, according to Offer.
“I know this is a shocker to a lot of people,Miami is super fun for a weekend, you go there, you’re like, 'This is awesome,'" he explained. "But if you live there, you will hate it."
Because of the humidity, Offer says that because the city is so oppressively hot and muggy, it's nearly impossible to walk outside for three to four months per year without dripping sweat within five minutes.
"If you're there in your 20s you're gonna feel so poor," he noted. "Everywhere you go it's clubs, it's restaurants, it's expensive, it's people flexing. You just can't do stuff. Everything's expensive and you're just gonna feel poor and it's gonna be hot and it's gonna be gross and you're not gonna have that much fun. Unless you are a really, really hot girl, then you'll have a blast."
Second, Offer named San Fransisco. "San Fransisco is horrible," he said. "It is extremely expensive for rent, the guy-to-girl ratio is just like 12 guys for one girl, which sucks, at every bar, every club you go to. You’re paying thousands of dollars for rent no matter where you are, and every morning you have fresh human feces on your doorstep."
He added that lots of car break-ins were a negative, as well as being unable to walk places because it's so hilly and needing to Uber around.
And while it may not be one of the most expensive cities in the U.S., Offer said the worst place he lived in his 20s was none other than Nashville.
"If you've ever been to Nashville for a bachelorette party, you're like, 'Oh my god, Nashville is so fun.' It is fun for a weekend," he admitted. "If you live there, there is no healthy food, everything is fried, so you’ll gain 20 pounds instantly. They don’t believe in salads there."
Not to mention, he says that you'll drink so much beer everywhere that you'll be "so gross," and that it's "really disgustingly hot and humid half the year." Additionally, he said that Nashville tends to be "really racist and backwards in many ways," and that even as a white Jewish man he struggled.
With reviews like this, it's no wonder what Green Bay, WI topped a recent list of the 150 best places to live in the U.S., for having the "perfect mix of big-city amenities" without feeling like you're living in a big city. And the humidity mostly even keeps at bay in the summer, which is apparently is huge plus.
Of course, the video is only his opinion, and many locals may take exception to his description of their cities. Still, everyone has an opinion.
