A Terrifying Halloween-Themed Bar Just Opened In D.C.
The Washington D.C. team that brought us the Game of Thrones bar this summer and the Super Mario-themed bar before that, has finally opened its month-long pop-up bar, PUB Dread, that is dedicated to all things Halloween from now until October 31.
As you walk into the bar, which used to be occupied by Mockingbird Hill, Southern Efficiency, and Eat the Rich, you'll notice that the weirwood tree from the Game of Thrones pop-up bar has been repurposed into a haunted forest-themed room.
Beyond the haunted forest is the crypt, which is decorated with tombstones dedicated to the bar's employees and coffins you can pose in for that *perfect* Instagram.
But by far, the creepiest room is the dollhouse, which they've filled with dozens of dolls sourced from Craigslist and thrift stores. One of these terrifying dolls may even be haunting the bar, according to Angie Fetherston, a partner at the bar. As soon as Cordelia, as they've named her, arrived at PUB Dread, Fetherston's phone stopped working, she told The Washingtonian.
"We would get random texts and emails from her phone that were just gibberish," says Matt Fox, who helped design the space. "She would even open up your phone and pull up a text message, and it would just start typing without her touching the phone. We're pretty sure Cordelia possessed her phone."
Thankfully, the last room is decidedly less scary (and less haunted, we hope). In this space-themed tribute to David Bowie, you'll find a large "Rebel Rebel" mural alongside the cover art from Aladdin Sane, as well as spacemen hanging from the ceiling a bar decorated with disco balls, neon lightning bolts and David Bowie albums.
As for cocktails, they're serving 10 Halloween-themed drinks including one called "Brains!" (Alexandro Sherry Blend, Brandy de Jerez, Luxardo Maraschino,Cinnamon Grapefruit Oleo, Fig, Lime), another named after "David S. Pumpkins" (Aged Rum, Two James Doctor Bird Jamaican Rum, Martell VS Cognac, Sherry Blend, Allspice Dram, Coconut, Pumpkin, Any Questions?), as well as the "The Dead Will Walk the Earth" (Tequila + Charred Pineapple Tonic), and the "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!" (Aperol, Campari, Spanish Vermouth, Twizzler Soda), which are pictured below clockwise from the top left.
If you thought they forgot to include anything It-related, you're wrong. This blood-red cocktail below is aptly called the "We All Float Down Here" and is made with peaty Scotch, Lot 40 Rye, sweet vermouth, cream sherry, creme de cacao and bitters.
