Taylor Swift Addresses Ongoing Questions About Her Sexuality
Taylor Swift
Fans of Taylor Swift are eagerly awaiting the release of 1989 (Taylor's Version), which is set to come out on Oct. 27. And ahead of the big debut, a sneak peek at a new prologue for the album—including revelatory statements from the star about rumors surrounding her sexuality—surfaced online.
In the prologue, which was leaked on X, via Page Six, Swift wrote about how, before the release of 1989 in 2014, she "swore off hanging out with guys. Dating, flirting, or anything that could be weaponized against me by a culture that claimed to believe in liberating women but consistently treated me with the harsh moral codes of the Victorian era."
“I swore off dating and decided to focus only on myself, my music, my growth, and my female friendships," she went on. “If I only hung out with my female friends, people couldn’t sensationalize or sexualize that right? I would learn later on that people could and people would.”
The new writing from the 33-year-old touches on rumors from over the years that she was in romantic relationships with various female friends.
She has denied any of these rumors multiple times, and in an interview with Vogue, Swift spoke about the LGBTQ+ community, saying, "Rights are being stripped from basically everyone who isn’t a straight white cisgender male. I didn’t realize until recently that I could advocate for a community that I’m not a part of. It’s hard to know how to do that without being so fearful of making a mistake that you just freeze."
While she often shows her support for the LGBTQ+ community, she has never indicated that she is queer, although fans continued to speculate. Right now, Swift is openly dating Travis Kelce, a football player for the Kansas City Chiefs.
