SZA Confirms a "Completely Innocent" Romance with Drake Back in 2009
In "Mr. Right Now," a collaboration between 21 Savage and Metro Boomin, Drake raps, "Yeah, said she wanna fuck to some SZA, wait / 'Cause I used to date SZA back in '08 / If you cool with it, baby, she can still play."
The lyrics rose some eyebrows, not only for the juicy reveal of a prior romance between the two musicians, but also at the fact that if they did indeed date in '08, Drake would have been 21 years old with SZA being just 17.
In a series of tweets, SZA cleared up the rumors.
"So It was actually 2009 lol ??.. in this case a year of poetic rap license mattered," she wrote. "Lol I think he jus innocently rhymed 08 w wait . Anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm.. it's all love all peace ??????.”
She added, "I just didn't want anybody thinking anything underage or creepy was happening . Completely innocent . Lifetimes ago ."

Though SZA has no qualms about being transparent, she apparently didn't appreciate her cameo in the song. People reported that following the drop of "Mr. Right Now," SZA unfollowed the Canadian rapper on Instagram. Drake, however, still follows her.
SZA has also been busy in the recording studio. After nearly three years since the release of her last album, the singer debuted a new single featuring Ty Dolla $ign, "Hit Different," and an accompanying music video (which she also directed).
"Just wanted to share something," she wrote of the video on Instagram. "Thank you to every single person that brought my heart to life during Covid (sorry my hands are shaking ) ?? I love you all so dearly oki bye."
