Support Pride with a drink and cake at these RI restaurants
If you want to support LGBTQ+ causes for this month of Pride, have a drink. Or a piece of cake.
Cathy Plourde and Kara Larson, owners of Rhode Island Spirits, launched a fundraiser with their Rhodium brand. Sales of a special Rhodium Pink Lemonade cocktail will be donated to Youth Pride Inc.
It goes beyond having the drink at the Pawtucket distillery at 40 Bayley St.
They've reached out to bars and restaurants who will also feature the drink and donate a portion of the proceeds to Youth Pride Inc. whose mission is to meet the unique, ongoing needs of LGBTQ+ youth and young adults through direct service, support, advocacy, and education.
One Pawtucket restaurant, Hangry Kitchen, 542 Pawtucket Ave., has gone beyond the cocktail model and created an angel food cake for the fundraiser. It's soaked in Rhodium Limoncello. They have a version made with lemon syrup for underage diners.
Participating and serving the Rhodium Pink Lemonade are Kimi's, 370 Washington St.; The Stable, 125 Washington St.; Tiny Bar at 377 Richmond St.; Oberlin Restaurant, 266 Westminster St.; Gift Horse at 272 Westminster St.; Gilligan's Pub, 937 Chalkstone Ave.; Plant City, 334 South Water St.; Patio on Broadway, 166 Broadway; the Brown Graduate Center Bar, 42 Charlesfield St.; and Aloft Providence Downtown, 191 Dorrance St. All are in Providence.
Also participating is the Beach House in Bristol at 805 Hope St.
"Some places are doing it for the whole month, some are doing it for a set time within Pride month," said Plourde. "Some are doing a percentage of the sale of the cocktail, some plan to make a donation."
At most of these bar and restaurants, board members of Youth Pride Inc. will drop in to talk with customers about the work they do, she added.
The cocktail is made with each bar or restaurant's favorite lemonade. Then they add a generous splash of Rhodium Rhode Island Red Vodka which is flavored with tart cherry and cranberry and has hints of rosemary, hibiscus and pink peppercorn. The garnish is anything rainbow.
