Students Respond with #IfIDieInASchoolShooting
There have been 22 school shootings so far this year, the most recent at Santa Fe High School in Texas just last week. In the wake of these events, the response from students across the country has become increasingly charged, and this week they again took to Twitter to express their frustrations.
Students began tweeting with the hashtag, #IfIDieInASchoolShooting, and sharing the things they would miss out on if their lives were taken too soon. The answers range from leaving their loved ones behind to never graduating college and never getting married. Almost all of them end with a plea for change.
Read some of their messages below.
#IfIDieInASchoolShooting I’ll never be able to travel to new places, learn from them, and change the mess of a gun policy we have in the United States.

#IfIDieInASchoolShooting I won't get to become a veterinarian, go to prom, or see my best friends ever again. I won't grow up and have children of my own. I'd leave behind family and friends.

#IfIDieInASchoolShooting My talents and the things I’ve worked so hard to achieve will be lost. I won’t smile again or laugh again. I won’t get to fall in love or read all the books I want to. If I die like that, I will not “Rest In Peace” until there is change.

Teachers are also joining the conversation.
#IfIDieInASchoolShooting it will be protecting my students who will be forever traumatized. My girls will no longer have a mother. Everyone will blame something to deflect their accountability. And the government will send their thoughts and prayers and allow it to happen again
