You Can Stream Beyoncé's 'Black Is King' Visual Album Right Now
Let us upgrade your weekend plans: On Friday, July 31, Beyoncé's new visual album, Black Is King, will hit Disney+. The film is based on the music of The Lion King: The Gift, a 2019 album the star curated for the recent remake of The Lion King movie. According to Disney, it will reimagine the "lessons of The Lion King for today’s young kings and queens."
The official trailer, which Beyoncé shared on Instagram on June 28, features several familiar faces, including Jay-Z, Naomi Campbell, Kelly Rowland, Lupita Nyong'o, and Tina Knowles-Lawson. In the caption of her Instagram post, Beyoncé wrote that the film is a "labor of love" that she has been "filming, researching, and editing day and night for the past year."
The star also acknowledged how the film has become especially relevant. "We are all in search of safety and light," she wrote on Instagram. "Many of us want change. I believe that when Black people tell our own stories, we can shift the axis of the world and tell our REAL history of generational wealth and richness of soul that are not told in our history books."
