The Strategic Reason Prince George, Princess Charlotte, & Prince Louis Always Coordinate Their Clothes
If you’ve been keeping tabs on the royal family, you may have noticed that Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte have the most beautiful way of coordinating their colorful looks. But if you look even closer, you will realize the royal kiddos also wear matching clothes. Prince William and Middleton’s kids Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 nearly always wear complementary outfits, and that is by *ahem* design.
According to fashion expert Amber Graafland, when the Wales family matches, it’s about so much more than aesthetics.

“By complementing each other, and sticking to a colour theme, they are showcasing a united front,” she said, per The Sun. “It’s a technique Prince William and Princess Kate use to show how in tune they are when they attend official engagements together, and they also deploy it with their children.”
Make sense? By looking cohesive, they are subtly showing the Commonwealth that they are all on the same page. Honestly, you could say the way the family dresses is a key piece of diplomacy.
“Adept at using their clothing to convey coded messages, the Waleses know that by presenting a refined and harmonious image they convey a close-knit family with a strong bond,” Graafland continued. “It also makes them instantly recognizable on the world stage.”
And yes, even if they’re not wearing the same. exact. thing. like newborn twins, the three siblings will be seen in some shade of the same color. The most recent example of this was on Christmas morning. During the family’s walk to Sandringham Church, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis all wore navy blue and green and blue plaid in their own way. For the boys, that meant navy suits and tartan ties. For their sister, it meant a tartan coat, navy stockings, and a green bow in her hair.
Earlier in December, the siblings each wore red at the Together at Christmas Carol Service at Westminster Abbey. Princess Charlotte wore her beloved deep red peacoat (that she wears on repeat!), and her brothers wore red ties.
Given the British royal family’s tough year with both Middleton and King Charles III being diagnosed with cancer, these subtly matching outfits are more important than ever.
“After a period of intense uncertainty, the couple clearly feel the need to put on a public display of strength and unity,” Graafland said. “With a question mark over the King’s health, the public are looking to William and Kate for stability.”
Once you start noticing all the ways the children complement each other with their wardrobes, you might realize that their closets runneth over with various shades of blue. Graafland believes that’s also intentional. “Not only does this calming color convey serenity
and stability, but it also symbolizes reliability.”
