The 3 things to know when decluttering your bathroom
Your bathroom counter shouldn't look like a drug store.
Your bathroom is supposed to be the place where you get ready in the morning, the room where you do your self-care before you sleep. Your bathroom is not supposed to look like the sale rack at CVS! If you have to rummage through bottles and tubes to find what you need, it is time to declutter. Here are my top 3 tips for decluttering your bathroom and turning it into a space that is efficient and serene for you.
Get rid of empty bottles
I know you have bottles in your bathroom with the teeniest bit of product left inside that you are just hanging onto!
These bottles are taking up way too much space in your bathroom for how much product is left inside of them. If it’s your expensive shampoo and you are going to squeeze every drop out before you buy your next one, finish it off next time you shower!
If that little bit has been sitting there for days, weeks even, toss it and get that counter space back. When they’re done, they’re done! The last drop of concealer? Use it and lose the tube.
Let go of the products you don’t like or use
This one is hard for many of us. The truth of the matter is that sometimes we spend a lot of money on a product, then we try it and we don’t like it!
Marketing schemes these days are very clever, with beauty products popping up everywhere that promise you things that a cream could never do. If you’ve purchased oceans of potions and lotions and still only use the one brand you love, it is okay to get rid of the ones you don’t use.
If you bought a conditioner, used it once and your hair wasn’t as curly as you like it, give it to someone whose hair it will work on! If you bought a lotion and the smell sticks in your nose for too long and gives you a headache, pass it on to someone who loves that scent.
I’m sure you have friends who would be so grateful for goody bags full of your rejects. Better yet, check with a local women’s shelter and see if they accept donations of lightly used products. And one last trick, if it’s a face cream that your face doesn’t like, then use it on your legs! The skin on your legs is not as sensitive as your face, and the lotion will do what it needs to – moisturize.
Stop buying things you don’t need
You may not be happy with me for this but I’m going to say it anyway: stop buying things that you don’t need.
The best way to reduce clutter is to stop bringing stuff in! You do not need 5 different shampoos that smell different– they all clean your hair equally well! Those products that promise they’ll take 20 years off your face? All of those creams do the same thing– moisturize your skin.
I hate to break it to you, but there is no magic bullet that is going to de-age us. If there were, we would all know about it by now! Stick to the products you love and use, and stop buying the ones you know you won’t.
Your bathroom is a place that needs to calm you, not stress you out. Take some time over the next couple of days and declutter your bathroom. You will be very happy you did!
