‘Stay hydrated & drink water’: Medical experts give advice to beat the Wisconsin heat
HOWARD, Wis. (WFRV) – Beware of the summer heat. With temperatures on the rise, health experts recommend decreasing the amount of time you spend outside.
“We should take the warnings that are given seriously and limit our time in the heat,” stated Dr. Stacee Goedtel Birr.

Family medicine physician Dr. Stacee Goedtel Birr recommends keeping a water bottle closed.
“Even if you are hanging out in the water, people sometimes think if you are in the water, you do not need to drink water. Well, that’s not true. You still need to have water with you,” said Goedtel Birr.
Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are common illnesses many face during the summer; experts say staying hydrated and ventilated will prevent it.

“Make sure that you have fluids with you at all times, even if you don’t plan to be out in the heat for too long. Make sure we have air conditioning. Maybe check your air conditioners and make sure they’re up to date and in service so they don’t go out,” stated Goedtel Birr.
The Howard Quarry is open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., but wristbands must be purchased through the city for access to the beach.
