Spring breakers busted by Florida police for drinking alcohol out of sunscreen bottles
Florida police have issued a stern warning to spring break partiers who have been trying to sidestep drinking laws by guzzling liquor out of bottles of sunscreen.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook last Thursday to post a photo of two bottles of what appears to be Tropic Tan sport sunscreen while cheekily getting their message across. “Spring break fact: Hiding vodka in a sunscreen bottle only works if you don’t let a deputy see you drink out of it,” the post read.
The bottles may look convincing, but they’re actually undercover flasks that can be purchased on sites such as eBay, which markets them as “GoPong Sport Bottle Sunscreen Flasks.” Each holds eight ounces of liquid and comes with a funnel for easy pouring and an airtight screw-on cap.
The product description reads, “GoPong’s ‘Tropic Tan’ Sunscreen ‘Sport’ Flask was designed to look like a regular bottle of sunscreen so you can fill the bottle with your favorite alcohol and take it to any outdoor event.”
But police were already wise to the scheme when they confiscated the two bottles from beach-goers. They publicized their bounty as a public service but refused to discuss whether the suspects were underage or arrested, according to WKRG. Drinking in public from non-glass containers is permitted in Florida, but there is a zero-tolerance policy for underage drinking.
As expected, Facebook users are having a field day with the post, flooding it with snarky comments and jokes.
“Amateurs … vodka goes into Sprite bottles,” one person wrote.
“Put Malibu Coconut rum in there. It already tastes like sunscreen,” someone joked.
“I’d like my vodka oil-free please with a splash of aloe,” said a third.
Some suggested the revelers dropped the ball by skipping the “obvious” cop-foiling method: drinking vodka from a water bottle. And a few pointed out a striking similarity to an episode of the FXX show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, in which characters are drinking tequila out of sunscreen bottles.
