Spider-Man 2 Director Says Collaboration Is Key For Upcoming Wolverine Game
With Spider-Man 2’s release date upon us, developer Insomniac is starting to think about what comes next. There are undoubtedly other games in the works – game studios rarely just work on one game – but Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine game is at the top of many gamers’ lists for anticipated releases.
The game was first revealed back in 2021, at the same time we first learned about Spider-Man 2. It was just a teaser, and we got the feeling that it would be quite far off, but it was undeniably Wolverine, and that was enough to get fans hyped.
So what did Insomniac learn from its trio of Spider-Man games that it can take into Wolverine?
“I can’t speak to Wolverine,” Spider-Man 2 director Ryan Smith told GLHF. Smith though, like most game developers, couldn’t help but tell us a little bit more about what it’s like to work on a Marvel game.
“I’ll say for us, this was just another great experience of working with the Insomniac team, who are inspired by each other, and inspired by our partners at Marvel or the team at Sony, and working together to make a great experience,” Smith said.
“What makes us super excited to come to work is not only that we get to work with great heroes and characters like Peter and Miles and all of the cast of characters that we have in the game,” Smith continued, “And it’s really important, and what helps us create these games.”
Smith reiterates that he can’t speak much about Wolverine at this stage, but does say that collaboration is key to the entire process.
“Our collaboration and teamwork are super important,” he says, “And I can’t speak to Wolverine, but that was looking back on Spider-Man, too. That was just a tremendous experience with a tremendous team.”
There’s no release date for Wolverine yet, but when it does eventually come, we can expect it to launch exclusively on the PS5 — just like Spider-Man 2.
