Southwest Airlines Unveils New Seat and Cabin Designs Coming Soon
For years, Southwest Airlines has served customers as a low-cost carrier with a wide-reaching global network. Southwest is the latest U.S. airline to undergo a makeover in recent years, and passengers will get to experience everything starting in 2025.
On Feb. 2, Southwest unveiled the face-lift that its cabins will receive. It features a calming blue color palette with head rests that feature the airline's signature heart logo. Each seat will come with USB-A and USB-C power ports on all new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and will be retrofitted to Southwest's current MAX 8 and 737-800 fleet "over the next several years." Cabins will also come with larger overhead bins.
Tony Roach, Southwest's senior vice president and chief customer officer, touted the benefits of the cabin overhaul in a statement, saying, "Our redesigned cabin interior significantly enhances our inflight customer experience and will complement the amazing service that our crews provide."
Southwest partnered with design firm Tangerine to bring the redesign vision to life. Tangerine's chief creative officer Matt Round explained how wide-reaching of an effort it's been. "We've listened to Southwest's customers and employees and responded by creating a distinctive new cabin interior that meets and exceeds their desires," he said. "The stunning result is a testament to what can be achieved through a collaborative spirit from all those involved."
Even Southwest flight attendants will start to look different. Employees who work "in and around airports" are going to get some new work clothes, whether they're in-flight crew or work in ground operations, cargo, and technical operations.
Southwest's famous boarding process, however, will remain intact.
