'Southern Charm' star Cameran Eubanks talks #MeToo movement amid Thomas Ravenel sexual assault allegations
Southern Charm’s Thomas Ravenel has announced that he is “not doing the show anymore.” But if you’ve been glued to the small screen this past season like we were, you’re probably not surprised.
The 56-year-old took to Twitter to declare that he was quitting the Bravo reality TV series because “they took advantage of me.” His storyline mostly involved being in a messy love triangle with the mother of his two children, Kathryn Dennis, and his ex-girlfriend, Ashley Jacobs. However, sexual assault allegations against Ravenel made by two women, including a former nanny, that police are investigating, may have prompted his dramatic exit.

Yahoo Lifestyle recently interviewed his co-star, Cameran Eubanks, and she discussed how the allegations involving the Ravenel, a real estate broker and former politician, and being a mother personally affected her life and ultimately changed her perspective on Dennis, whom she had previously shunned.
“I think becoming a mother myself, it forced me to see Kathryn in a different light. The fact that she had her children so young on television and was in the middle of a rocky relationship,” said Eubanks. “I had all this support in the world when I had Palmer, and Kathryn didn’t have any of that. It really, really made me feel a lot of empathy for her and made me respect the hell out of her.”
Eubanks tearfully apologized to Dennis during the Southern Charm Season 5 reunion, and the renewed sisterhood shared among the women was refreshing to witness.
“I think with the whole #MeToo movement, women are no longer afraid to come forward and speak their truth,” Eubanks said. “In the South, you have this good ol’ boy mentality. I think it’s quickly dying … hopefully. It needs to.”
Ravenel’s untimely exit from the show could be a signal that Eubanks is right. Only time will tell.
