How Sophie Turner Discovered Her Marriage to Joe Jonas Was Over
It turns out Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas' divorce may not be as amicable as we were led to believe.
Though the two issued a joint statement shortly after Jonas filed for their formal separation, assuring fans that it was a mutual decision, new court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight claim that the Game of Thrones alum found out about the divorce through media reports, several days after the musician submitted the filing.
According to a timeline included in Turner's most recent filing, in which she demanded Jonas return them to her in England, the "Cake By the Ocean" singer originally filed for divorce on Sept. 1, 2023, though Turner did not become aware of the fact until Sept. 5, when it was picked up by the media.
The docs also revealed that the estranged couple met on Sept. 17 to discuss the divorce, which included having the children return home to England with her, where the family had established a permanent residency earlier this year. Turner claimed that Jonas was withholding their young daughters' passports from her and refusing to send them home.
Jonas has since denied those claims. A rep alleged that Turner was warned ahead of time that he would be filing for divorce, and that the Florida Court where the filing was made has restricted the former couple from relocating the children at this time.
His rep also suggested that, after their Sept. 17 meeting, which was described as "cordial," Jonas was left with the "impression...that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup."
