Simone Biles Just Broke *Another* Major Record Last Night
Simone Biles is showing no signs of slowing down after breaking another major record.
Last night, the 24-year-old gymnast won her seventh consecutive all-around title at the 2021 U.S. Gymnastics Championships. As a result, she became the first American woman to claim the title seven years in a row. (She was previously tied with Clara Schroth Lombady.)
During the tournament (which took place in Ft. Worth, Texas), Biles received an impressive all-around score of 119.650, along with standalone titles in vault, balance beam and floor.
Shortly after winning, Biles revealed that it’s a huge confidence boost, especially with the approaching Olympic games. “It’s really emotional, especially going into my second time doing an Olympic run,” she said, per E! News. “It’s really crazy, and I appreciate everyone that’s come out to watch and support us, especially after the year we’ve had.”
Biles beat out on impressive group of gymnasts, including runner-up Suni Lee (who scored 114.950) and second runner-up Jordan Chiles (who scored 114.450). Many fans believe that these athletes will occupy three of the four spots on the U.S. team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, which were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the gymnastics team won’t be decided until the Olympic Trials, which begin on June 24.
Biles rose to stardom after competing in the 2016 Olympics, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At the time, she won three individual gold medals, one bronze medal and one gold alongside Team U.S.A. She’s currently the most decorated American gymnast of all time. (NBD.)
