Sad news from the Bahamas.
A 44-year-old woman from Boston was attacked and killed by a shark while paddleboarding off the shore of Nassau this morning.
She was brought to the beach in a rescue boat and pronounced dead on the scene.
CBS reported the story in the video above and captioned it:
"A Boston woman was killed in a shark attack near a Sandals resort on Nassau, Bahamas. She and a male relative were paddle boarding when she was attacked. Elaine Quijano reports."
In the video above, Quijano says the attack took place "Shortly after 11:15 this morning."
Police told CBS that the woman was paddleboarding with a male relative about three-quarters of a mile offshore.
According to Quijano:
"Police say a lifeguard on duty rushed out to help the victim, a 44-year-old woman from Boston. She was brought back to shore in a rescue boat, where emergency medical personnel tried to resuscitate her."
In the video, a police officer said:
"CPR was administered to the victim, however, she suffered serious injuries to the right side of her body. They thoroughly assessed the victim, and they declared that she showed no vital signs of life."
In a related story, Reuters reported:
"While fatal shark attacks are not common in The Bahamas, at least two others have been reported recently.
"On Nov. 21, a 47-year-old German woman went missing during a diving excursion in waters off West End, Grand Bahama, after encountering a shark, police said.
"In September 2022, a 58-year-old American woman was killed in a shark attack while snorkeling with her family in waters of New Providence."
This is a developing story.
