The attack took place at a popular holiday spot off South Australia's Eyre Peninsula. Around 1 p.m., a shark tore into his leg while he was surfing a few hundred meters offshore. His injuries are significant, but not life-threatening.

7News reported:

"He declined an ambulance and instead made his own way to the hospital after scrambling from the water and back to his car.

"He is in stable condition and is being flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

"Surfing website Swellnet reported the victim was a local surfer who was about 200m offshore at Blacks, Elliston when he was attacked.

"It says the surfer managed to swim back to shore and scale up rocks to safety.

"Significant bite marks on his board were shown in pictures of the damaged surfing equipment."

This is the sixth attack in South Australia in the last eight months.

The attack comes less than two weeks after 15-year-old Khai Cowley was killed in a shark attack off the South Australian coast near Ethel Beach in the Innes National Park on the Yorke Peninsula.
