As If the Sex Scenes Weren’t Awkward Enough, Emilia Clarke’s Brother Works as a Cameraman on ‘Game of Thrones’
We imagine there are few things more mortifying as an actor than your family watching you, um, get romantic with another actor. Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, knows that all too well.
During a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, the 32-year-old GoT star revealed that her brother works in the camera department on the hit HBO series—which makes certain scenes just a little bit awkward. (Remember when Jon and Dany got down and dirty on that ship? Uh-huh. Awkward.)
She told the show’s 51-year-old host that having her brother so close while filming is usually a delight. But there are days she asks him to keep his distance.
“He’s in the camera department, which is brilliant, it’s amazing…it’s really nice,” Clarke explained.
But when she knows she’s filming something saucy, she tries to keep her brother at bay for obvious reasons.
“There are some days where he’s like, ‘Oh, I’ll swing by,’ because he’s literally in the next unit that’s filming next door,” she told Kimmel. “And I’m like, ‘Nah, it’s good! I’m good! You can stay there.’ He’s like, ‘I just want to say hi, I haven’t seen you in ages,’ and I’m like, ‘No!’”
So, who’d be more embarrassed by that whole scenario if she wasn’t able to intercept him in time? “Definitely him,” Clarke responded immediately. Noted.
Sex scenes aside, it’s probably a fun experience to watch your sister ride a dragon or be a boss lady and demand a king (aka Jon Snow) bend the knee. As far as those love scenes go though, we can’t think of anything more embarrassing.
