9/11 widow searching for stolen wedding bands: 'I've been praying to God and Michael about helping me find this ring'

A 9/11 widow is hunting for her stolen diamond ring and wedding bands after the pieces were stolen.

Monica Iken’s diamond ring and two wedding bands, which included gems from her late husband Michael, disappeared when she put them on a nightstand in a co-worker’s rented house in Westhampton, N.Y. last month, the New York Post reported. Since then, Iken has utilized social media in an effort to get the word out about her missing jewels.

In 2015, the rings were blessed by Pope Francis when he made a visit to Ground Zero.

“I’m emotional already with 9/11 approaching. I’ve been praying to God and Michael about helping me find this ring,” Iken told the Post.

Iken’s first husband, Michael, was a bond broker on the 84th floor of Tower Two when he was killed on Sept. 11, 2001. When she married FDNY firefighter Robert Murphy in 2006, she incorporated gems from her original wedding band into the new jewels.

A former public schoolteacher, Iken is the founder of September's Mission, a nonprofit organization devoted to building a positive and meaningful legacy out of the events surrounding 9/11.
