Selena Gomez's New Song Is Here and She Gets So Real About Having Anxiety
Four days ago, singer Julia Michaels teased her fans with the tracklist for her new EP and said it would be coming out in six days. One of the songs everyone was super excited about was one called "Anxiety" that features Selena Gomez, who has been quite candid about her experiences living with anxiety and depression. Because these celebs love to keep everyone guessing and surprise dropping new music whenever it suits them (bless!), Julia decided to release the song before the full EP came out, and it's so real.
The song starts off with Julia singing:
"My friends, they wanna take me to the movies
I tell 'em to fuck off, I'm holding hands with my depression
And right when I think I've overcome it
Anxiety starts kicking in to teach that shit a lesson"
Selena joins in after about a minute and relays how it can feel when talking to people who can't relate to having anxiety and how she wishes she could "fix it." In her own words, she says:
"But all my friends, they don't know what it's like, what it's like
They don't understand why I can't sleep through the night
And I thought that I could take something to fix it
Damn, I wish it, I wish it was that simple, ah
All my friends they don't know what it's like, what it's like"
To announce the new song, Selena shared a sweet photo of her hugging Julia on Instagram and captioned it, "This song is extremely close to my heart as I've experienced anxiety and know a lot of my friends do too. You're never alone if you feel this way. The message is much needed and I really hope you guys like it!"
